Korean War Memorial Foundation Scholarship

Korean War Memorial Foundation supports educational expenses for veterans' descendants

who meet certain criteria of selection. For people who want to study in Korean university or

graduate school, living expenses and extra necessary costs will be paid.

 

1. Scholarship:  Korean War Memorial Foundation Scholarship  

   

2. Institution: Korean War Memorial Foundation

 

3. Recipients: about 6    

 

4. Eligibility: Direct descendants of veterans from 21 UN countries

1) Persons confirmed as descendants of 6.25 overseas veterans 

2) Those who have met the admission requirements of the university (graduate school) and have

passed the admission process (including undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs) 

3) Those who are mentally and physically healthy while studying in Korea

- This scholarship is awarded to the direct descendent of international Korean War veterans who

applied to study undergraduate or graduate programs in Korea and is recommended by the Korean

War Memorial Foundation.

 

*  21 UN countries: US, Canada, Colombia, Greece, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, UK, Turkey,

France, Thailand, Philippines, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Ethiopia, Norway, Denmark,

Sweden, Italy, India

 

5. Grants/ Benefits and Grant Period: Details will be announced by the Korean War Memorial Foundation 

1) Apply for 8 semesters for undergraduate and 4 semesters for master's degree.

  Whether or not to apply for Korean language courses varies by school 

[HUFS(Hankuk University of Foreign Studies) can apply 100%] 

2) Exemption of tuition and dormitory fees 

3) Monthly scholarship support (500,000 won) 

4) Health checkup and medical expenses support 

(participating organization: Soonchunhyang University Hospital)

* Contents may change depending on circumstances.

 

6. Application Period: Any time during the academic year

 

7. Application Procedure:

- Applicants need to contact the foundation and submit the application package to the foundation,

with the evidential document from the embassy that proves that the applicant is a direct descendent

of a Korean war veteran.

 

* Applicable universities: Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Seoul National University, Hanyang

University, Soonchunhyang University, Sookmyung Women's University, Ulsan Institute of Science

and Technology (UNIST)

1)  Hankuk University of Foreign Studies: Selected by the university through 'Descendants of Korean

War UN Veterans Scholarship' (5 students every year) 

2) Other universities: Receive applications through e-mail and are selected by the foundation

(the number of selected applicants varies each year)
